Does anyone have any new information about Vault? Has anyone had it yet...tell us what it tastes like. Surge or Mello Yello?
End the suspense! |

From what I heard a while back, they were testing a few different formulas. One was actually the original Surge formula.
I haven't heard a word about it since. |

ooh, damn. i bet they had taste tests for vault and had people compare it to the surge formula, and everyone decided that vault sucked so they're bringing back surge instead that would be awesome |

| I am not trying to knock your soda completely, but why do you think Surge was canned in the first place. I hear all the crys for Surge out there but its always the same people. I think a blind folded National taste test between the three soda's Mello Yello, surge, & Vault should give the answers we are looking for. Then have the winner of those three take on Mt. Dew. The Kicker is don't tell anyone what kind of soda pop taste test they are particpating in...so there is no previous bias added.[/b] |

| i respect ur view. mello yello is a pretty good soda, but i just prefer SURGE over it. that would b a good idea with the taste test though. i bet at least one of them, if not more, could beat mt. dew. |

| I honestly only remember having Surge once, and I don't really remember what it tastes like - only that it didn't taste as much like Dew as I expected it too. But it has to have been better than Mello Yello, because that stuff tastes like butt. |

I agree with the Surge lovers. Surge was the better tasting soda. Mello Yello tastes like watered down Mt. Dew. I think that Coca Cola is the one to blame with Surge. The marketing was not that good to begin with and it seemed that they expected Surge to sell like Mountain Dew right off the bat, which is ridiculous. That is like Pepsi expecting Sierra Mist to compete with Sprite in sales. It won't happen.
My own opinion is that Coke dropped the ball with Surge and no matter if they roll out Vault( a horrible name) or stick with Mello Yello they are making a big mistake. They should have kept Surge. |

| Part of the reason Surge failed is that at the time Coke's second biggest bottler "Herbco" did not distribute the product. This was the same situation with Citra. If all of Cokes system would run their new products they would have better sucesses. |

Feed the Rush was a horrible tagline.
The graphics were hideous.
Kids wanted it, but their parents refused to buy it, because they basically thought it was 2 liters of pure caffeine and sugar.
You will never beat Dew. Like Redbull, they own their segment of the market.
The numbers speak for themselves. Surge dropped like a ROCK after its' first year out. It became dead weight. We had 2 liters going out of date left and right.
Mello Yello, on the other hand, has a pretty strong history. It's available in fountain in places where you can't buy it in bottle/can. The newest version of the logo is pretty sharp, in my opinion.
Surge never had legs to cut into Dew sales. Mello Yello does. Look at how well it does in the south. It's a core brand for Consolidated in many areas.
But, in my opinion, Coke is more concerned with dumping new products on the market without paying enough attention to what they've got out there already.
Mello Yello will never beat Dew, like Powerade will never beat Gatorade. But there is no reason that MY can't tap into the Dew market, like Powerade did with Gatorade.
Sure, marketing plays a big part in it all. But you need to have a brand with a lot of potential to begin with. Surge was not that brand. It was, in my opinion, a knee-jerk reaction to the explosion in Dew numbers. |

Wasn't Mello Yello just a knee jerk reaction to Mountain Dew in the seventies?
In my opinion Surge was the better product. It didn't taste like a watered down Dew knockoff. I can't imagine that Coke is better off with Mello Yello than they were with Surge.
I would also have to say that Vault is a horrible concept for a soda. The name is pathetic. But basically everything that Coke has done in the past decade has been bad. They changed Mr. Pibb to Pibb Xtra and for what reason? The whole marketing of Mello Yello (generation X thing) was bad. Even though I liked the old red and black cherry coke logo I have no idea what they were trying to do with that. And C2 in 8 packs? |

| Do this one thing...I disagree with the comment that MY is a watered down version of Mt Dew. I drink Mello Yello over Mt. Dew for the reason that it has more flavor than Dew. If you haven't had a Mello Yello in quite some time go out and buy a can of Mello yello and Dew and try a side by side comparison. I bet you will tell a difference. In my opinion mello yello out of a can is the best...something tastes a little different when they bottle it in plastic. I have had Surge but it was a long time ago...so I honestly can't say exactly what it tastes like anymore (Something lime like). Who knows, as I go older my tastes changes and maybe so as for my liking of Surge...and you too for Mello Yello. |

I can't really get into this arguement seeing as i have seen mello yellow once in my entire life and didn't even get to test it out.
I agree that Feed the Rush wasn't the best slogan because of parents thinking that it will make there kids bounce off the walls. (If you remember there was a commercial with a guy with crazy hair running around screaming Feed The Rush) <--- probably didn't help them out much.
I know that in my school they took it out of the machines before it quit production because of cmplaints from parents.
I would love to see Surge come back as Surge and not Vault.
Do I think it will happen? Na |

Please don't insult Mello Yello like that. It is very rude. Think before you respond. If MY really tasted like that why would it still be around after 26 years? |
