I noticed they had Dr. Pepper Cool Packs here along with the Pepsi Fridge Mates, but the A&W and 7 UP are still in regular 4x3 packs. Weird. I wonder why they'd do that? Sunkist is in... hmm, I didn't check if they were Fridge Mates or Cool Packs, but dnL is the old kind.

My best assumption would be that Pepsi distributes Dr Pepper in your area.

Here in California, Fridge Packs are available from coke & DPSU. Pepsi is the only one not selling 2x6 packaging atm. (Pepsi has DP where I live, so getting a CP of DP requires a trip to LA County)

As I understand it, PBG is the last one who plans to convert, using those fake fridge mates in the 2x6 config for now.

I was told by a Pepsi guy that PBG plans to convert in the Baltimore area in 2005. They are using the fake Fridge Mates here now on some brands, but not all.

Here, Coke has Fridge Packs, and since they bottle DP they put DP in "Cool Packs" which are the same thing. Otherwise, all other DPSU products and all Pepsi products are the old style.

I think you mean fake fridge mates in 3x4. Fridge mates in 2x6 would be real ones.

Okay, things are confusing. Pepsi bottles Dr. Pepper here. They also bottle Sunkist. Someone else bottles all the other DPSU products, which is why they aren't converted yet. But Sunkist competes with Slice, so somehow Pepsi got "local bottlers" to bottle Slice so they could still sell it. Which I don't understand. That would be like Coke bottling Dr. Pepper and then getting someone local to bottle Mr. Pibb as well. Why bother when they know the DPSU sells better?

Now that's weird. A non-Pepsi bottler with Slice?

local bottlers, independent bottlers.. Pepsi has a lot of generic caps on their stuff, kinda like the whole Coca-Cola Bottlers Association caps/cans.

The only real way to to figure out where it was bottled (and by who) is to look at the two letter code on the bottom of the can or the neck of the bottle.

I am suprised that Pepsi would allow any Pepsi bottler to carry both Slice and Sunkist. Maybe they don't have anything in their contract prohibiting it? They are different sodas, after all.. Sunkist is loaded with caffeine.

Back in the late 90's, some Coke bottlers were still selling A&W, even though Coke had bought out Barq's in 1996. Coke New York felt they could carry both brands, since they have a different taste and Barq's has caffeine, but A&W doesn't. DPSU felt differently, and terminated their A&W franchise. Coke NY sued.. not sure how it turned out, but they never got A&W back.

In parts of Virginia, 7UP is still sold by Pepsi, so another company actually carries Sierra Mist. But this Mist is produced by the Pepsi bottler in Pennsauken, NJ.

They don't carry both. Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. of Fort Lauderdale-Palm Beach has Sunkist, and Slice is "manufactured by local bottlers FOR the Pepsi Bottling Group."

That Pepsi bottler is part of Pepsi CIC, which is an independent Pepsi bottler based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Their office is in Pompano Beach, production is in Riviera Beach.

Most of the state of Florida is controlled by Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG).

Only one Pepsi bottler has franchise rights to a territory. So, my best guess is that they are importing the Slice from the surrounding PBG territory.

Southeast Atlantic is the big DPSU bottler in Florida, and they don't have Sunkist in that area.

I'm just not sure why Pepsi and DPSU would allow Pepsi CIC to carry both. But then again, some Pepsi bottlers carried Livewire and Sunkist, so who knows.

It's pretty irrelevant as to who is bottling something, but it's about who has the franchise rights to that brand as to whether they can sell it in that area or not. Bottlers sell product to each other all the time. And many small 4th tiers who produce nothing buy from various sources, depending on who has product available at that time.

Ah yes, I remember the days when Coke NY had A&W. I remember they also used to carry both Minute Maid and Sunkist.

In the Ft Myers/Naples (FL) area Southeast does carry Sunkist and Diet Sunkist. Pepsi here also carried both the Livewire AND Slice. Southeast is
the only one with 4x3 12 packs. Even the beer (JJ Taylor) Miller and Lite
are in what they call "Fridge Packs". I have got to say. They spent more money on them because they are stronger than the coke ones...with a nice
handle

I've seen it very vaguely, and only once, but in Leesburg, VA Pepsi Shenandoah for a while had both 7Up and Sierra Mist. No one has Sierra Mist in that area because Pepsi does 7Up, and the third-tier is RC Winchester, who has 7Up in some territories, but not many (They do produce it though).

As for FP's, Coke should be universally converted now, except for a few holdovers like ABARTA and such.

The only DPSU Cool Packs are from the corporate bottlers, being ABC, Dr Pepper of Texas, and 7Up/RC of So. Cal.

I've heard PepsiAmericas has FridgeMates now, and it sounds like PBG in Florida does, but around here, Pepsi doesn't have any in FridgeMates, just fake ones from Baltimore. The Johnstown facility won't do those.
