Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that Pepsi is dumping Edge by the end of the year, and that Coke is officially dumping MM sodas (though they will still make the concentrate if any bottlers are interested).

I wonder how C2 will fare when Zero comes out.

Minute Maid sodas? I thought those were out of production for years.

Good riddance on Pepsi Edge. Darn, that had to be one of the shortest lived sodas.

MM, you will be missed. Guess this means more of that horrible Fanta crap you call an orange soda. I can't wait for what Coke comes up w/2006 when Fanta fails once again.

As for Pepsi Edge, no surprise there. The mid-cal customers were never there, and were never going to be. I think Pepsi Blue might have been more shortlived though.

You know what they're going to replace it by, right?

Minute Maid--again. Or they'e going to call it all Fruitopia or something. Like, "yeah, Fruitopia is back...in soda form"

(edit)

You know, I would like Fanta (and I'm sure people would buy fanta) if they could stock the rare ones in stores. (the apple, the citrus [or whatever its called] and pineapple) I mean you can find like five different kinds of grape, strawberry and orange soda in stores. Fanta's dying out there.

I was talking to sodafinder's Brian Florence the other night via the yahoo messenger, and he told me that fanta used to make a red grapefruit flavor. (just recently, he showed me a pic and it was in the packaging fanta still uses) I'd keep fanta afloat if they still made it.

So what I'm trying to say is fanta should widdle down the grapes and the strawberries, and make apple and citrus more nationally available, and bring back the grapefruit.

I can confirm that it was Pink Grapefruit that Fanta sold. (Brian got the grapefruit from me!)

When Fanta was relaunched in 2000, they had Lemon and Pink Grapefruit for sale. (Somewhere I have pics of all the fantas they had at the time)

I personally have seen:

Citrus
Apple (darn good stuff)
Pink Grapefruit
Pineapple
Strawberry
Orange
Grape
Berry
Lemon
Black Cherry (this one I can get from Great Plains Coke)

So they've tried 11 flavours (Brian turned up a Tangerine Fanta that I haven't seen anywhere)

that apple is the only flavor I've tried that deserves to be called Fanta-astic.

Brian showed me a pic of that too the other night, and I asked him where he got it and he said he found it at a mexican grocery store.

Brian told me he was talking to you on the phone when he was IM'ing me. Smile

Like it or not, I don't think Fanta is going anywhere.

I feel bad about Minute Maid leaving but I'll be very happy if my area gets more Fanta. We finally started getting Orange and Grape in the past six months and I'm really hoping we get Citrus soon! Minute Maid had a decent amount of shelf space in this part of PA so maybe they will "import" a few more Fantas.

I for one don't understand the point of saying "Hey' we're going to discontinue this, but we'll still make it for those who want it." I'm wondering how much longer Mid-Atlantic Canners is going to be making Minute Maid sodas. I don't see the logic in us having one brand of orange for 20 ounce and 2 liters, and another brand for cans.

It seems like that might be the case with Diet Coke With Lemon too. It does seem like Coke is no longer promoting it as a member of the "Diet Coke family", but I just got a bottle that expires in July.

Does MAC still make MM sodas? In the area of Indiana that receives product from MAC it is all Fanta.

MAC Hamburg is still spitting out FridgePacks of Valencia.

Fanta failed a few years ago with advertising. It was out in the 90's as well, replaced by MM. Fanta has never sold well in the US, and it's going to get phased out again after it fails again.

In 2000 when Coke relaunched Fanta, I bought Apple, Lemon, Pink Grapefruit and Pineapple in Amarillo Texas in 4 Packs. The Pink Grapefruit was the best tasting of the four.
